so here is the problem. shut the truck off and now will not start. no "wait to start" light comes up and the check engine light is on. i have a chip in the truck its the dp tuner f5 with 6 modes. when i turn the key on the little dot in the corner comes up for a second just like it normally did but no number ever comes up on the screen. could this be the problem? i tried wiggling on the chip to be sure it was plugged in all the way but no such luck. any help is appreciated. its 1 of our 3 work trucks for towing and gets used almost every day would like to get it running asap the trailer is waiting! Thanks in advance
also a little more info for ya. about a month ago the truck started to randomly stall but would mostly always fire right back up. there has been a time or two when the wait to start light would not come on and then it would not start unless you cycled the key a few times to get it to show. i replaced the cam positioning sensor thinking that should solve my problem. went a week of running with no stalling issues at all thought i had it fixed.
yesterday morning truck quit and would not restart. then all the sudden it did and while truck was running i touched the chip to see if it was loose and it shut off. i took the chip out cleaned everything up and reinstalled truck ran great. thought i had it fixed again. then when the truck was shut off i now have the no start issue. i am out of ideas
There are instructions to get the tuner out of No Start on DP's web site, but it sounds like you need to pull the chip and make sure you got the contacts clean.
ok thanks for the help so far. i guess i forgot to mention i did check all the fuses but just to be sure i just rechecked them. i took the chip out and cleaned it all up and reinstalled it. i now have the chip working (the numbers at least now come up on the screen). still no "wait to start" light. truck still does not start. check engine light is on
ok sorry for the long response time. work has been crazy busy. i have a buddy that has a scanner so that is what i am going to try to do today is get that from him and hook it up. The truck was running with an intermittent stall problem which would sometimes result in the truck not starting back up for a while. Then just like that it would start. So the truck had just shut off on its own and once it restarted (cycled the key about 50 times to get a wait to start light) i touched the chip to see if it was loose and it shut off. So in the case the key was on. I then disconnected the batteries and removed the chip to clean then reinstalled and reconnected the batteries. After that is when it ran fine untill he shut it off. To the best of my knowledge key was never on while the chip was removed. I have 2 new cps and the one ford installed on recall, tried them all with same results
You may still have a pcm problem. If the truck was running when you were messing with the chip and it cause it to shut off, you could have caused it to disconnect even for a second and messed something up.
hooked up the scanner and all i get is failure to communicate. So i'm guessing that the pcm is junk. would taking it to the dealer for a reflash be worth my time? If not then what is the best way of going about getting a pcm? If i get one from a scrap yard does it have to match year or will any one work? this truck is a 97 F350 crew long box
