I need some help aligning my shifter forks in the tranny I just bought, an NP435. It came without a shifter, but I had a spare shifter and a top cover so I just decided to swap out both at the same time, bad idea... I don't think the tranny was in neutral when I got it. Now all the shifter forks are way out of alignment and I have no idea what I'm doing... Could anyone explain how I could properly align them? (a picture of a set of properly aligned shift forks would be very nice, measurements would be much appreciated) Or should I just take it to a tranny shop and have them work on it?
Also, I'm having issues with the shifter lever itself. The piece on the very end of it (inside the tranny) seems to fit nicely into a little notch in one of the shift forks. The problem is, the end of the shifter will pop out of that notch and the shifter will be able to move around freely, without actually shifting any gears. Is this also part of the alignment problem?
