Trans Temp

Had my modis scanner hooked up today and notice my trans temp on my guages was off from my scanner. The temp difference was about 40 deg, when my guage read 150, my scanner read 190. Could my guages be that far off ? Shouldn't the readings be the same since it reads electronically ?

Thanks

My Scangauge always reads 10* higher than my analog Auto Meter trans gauge.

I notice the same as Bill on my truck and others. Usually 5*F-10*F but not haven't seen much more than that.

Not necessarily. Depends on where your sensor is placed. I ran across this issue a while back. Here is the post:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...emp-gauge.html

I came to a conclusion in my last post on that thread that may apply to your situation. Check it out and let me know if you have any questions or additional information that may help us both out.

Thanks

Do you have an inferred gun? I check mine every so often and they are in check with the gauges.

Mine is a few degrees off my Scangauge as well. But not 40 deg... The higher temp sounds about right for stock cooling, so I'd believe that one if you don't have a larger cooler installed. With my 6.0L cooler, my temps run around 140 unloaded in the summer.

Sorry to barge in, but do these trannies really run 190 when just cruising unloaded on the freeway? My ScanGauge usually reads in the region of 150-160 @ 55MPH unloaded, slight uphill...just wanted to know if that's correct or if I should mentally have some correction factor for it (ie. +30F on the gauge for actual temp)

I don't think so. My trans fluid temp is 160 degrees on the ISSPRO gauge when cruising down the freeway. Ambient temps are around 110-115 ish. My AE reads about 165-167 under the same conditions.

Only time I saw 190 was when I pulled 16,500 lbs up a steep mountain grade when it was 110 degrees outside. (actually went a little bit past 190 if I remember correctly...)

That's about what mine reads when ambient is less than 100*

When I tow my 12000 lb tractor I see temps all the way up to 210 on my scan gauge and my analog only reads 185 . I don't know which one to trust.

Yes, 190ish empty on stock cooling is "normal". Here's what mine ran in ~95F ambient temps after 30 miles:

Here is the temp with the 6.0L cooler after the exact same drive, in about the same 95 deg ambient temps:

EDIT: My ScanGauge is within 10 deg of my analog gauge, BTW...

EDIT2: 90-100 deg over ambient temps are considered "normal" on stock cooling. I run about 40-50 over ambient empty now, and towing moderate weight in 100+ deg Texas heat, it was about 180.

So then what did it run stock (w/out cooler) when it was towing? It's a bit hard to believe that it will run 190 not towing and stay alive when towing anything larger than a Tonka truck.
