Leaf Springs

This maybe a stupid question but when i picked up my new 2011 F-350 i noticed that it only had 4 rear leaf springs and my 06 F-350 had 6. Just wondering why. Craig

If I were to guess.. high strength steel.. means it takes less.

Longer springs and fewer of them make for a better ride. There are fewer leaves but they are thicker. Unfortunately the trade-off for this is the truck sags easier under a load.

They sissyed the springs to cater to the cow boy hat and boots crowd.

I won't know until I hook to the camper, but I'm guessing Timbrens are going to be a necessity on this truck. I used to be a Firestone airbag fan, but I think the Timbrens actually ride better.

I have a 2,500 lb tongue weight work trailer and the truck sits alot lower then my 06 F-350. I'm thinking about adding add-a-leafs to the rear to bring it up a little.

I just ordered up a set of Firestone air bags for my 2011 F250 SD. Will see what happens after I put them on. My hitch dropped 3 inches when I set my 30' toy hauler on it and the trailer was dry and empty. So I'm thinking that air bags should help.

If I would hae ordered the camper package would that have added more leaf springs to the rear and stop the sag that might happen when I load my 5th wheel?

I had the same issue. Got new truck, hooked up trailer, and said "wow". Rear sags much more than my '08 did.

My opinion, get airbags. Better solution that won't make the truck ride rough when unloaded, when loaded it will be stout.

I had the fiestone airbags on my 05 F-350 and when I called the shop that installed them I asked him if it would be cheaper to pull the airbags out of my 05 and put them in the 2011 or just order new ones he said it is a totally different airbag for the 2011. The airbags I have won't fit on the new 2011.

I have never had air bags, how much do they normally run installed?

I went with Timbrens but would have prefered to have gone with AB's. I installed a minor lift on my truck and now sits level. But when I hook up my 5'er, the truck drops 1" before the Timbrens take effect leaving that squatted look. Once in play, the ride is very smooth.
