just had my '01 diesel 4x4 excursion checked out cuz the ABS light was on. Found out that both the bearings in the front are rubbing against the caliper, I suppose. The tech told me that one of them has quite of bit of play in it and is causing the caliper to rub against the rotor. Is this a pretty simple, self explanatory replacement or does it require a special tool? Also I'm trying to search for a price on the part but I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking for....kinda stupid I know. I've found the master bearing/seal axle hub assembly, but I've also found needle bearing so a little lost. Please Help!
You will need the whole hub assembly. They are pretty pricey. It is a realitively easy replacement. Once you get new ones, you can pull them every year to lube the needle bearnings and grease the main bearings through the ABS sensor hole to make them last longer.

Reason: because "longe" just doesn't make sense.
Check out amazon for some of the timken units. Some say they will last longer and some one elso did recently replaced theirs and found some on amazon. Check out guzzles web site for instructions on replacement. Follow the ones for the needle bearing lube. Also a good time to check out the slide pins on the calipers because they are know to seize. When you order your hubs you will need the ones with the course threads. Have fun with it. While on guzzle's site you can also check out all the other do it yourself maint items and save yourself hassles down the road.
Thanks again. the guzzles site is pretty cool. I need to get this fixed today so I can't wait to order the Timken online. the best I can find locally is either duralast(autozone) or masterpro(oreilly auto). I'll probably go with the duralast. Thanks again
