Having an RPM Problem!

The RPM's get really high 3 to 4 thousand in normal driving. It seams to shift into the next gear fine. The tranny fluid level is good. It starting to happen more often. Any suggestions?

Oh. I have an 05 6.0 4X4 EB

Thanks
Chris

Throttle position sensor? At 3 to 4K rpm on a diesel, you're getting into red line area.

I'm not 100% certain that is the problem. Maybe someone here can provide a method you can test before you change it. When was the last time you changed the tranny fluid?

I have not changed the tranny fluid yet, I just bought my EX April. The fluid looks good and the level is fine. This has been going on for about a week. This morning when i got to work the "Check Gage" light was on and the water temp was high. Something is going on.

That's not good....

Check your coolant level via the degas bottle, if it's dry, it can be a number of things none of which are good...I'd have the dealer or better yet a local diesel performance shop check it out as they'll be a little more reasonable and straight forward with you.

Sounds as though your transmission is either slipping or not going into high gear maybe not even 3rd gear.
I know nothing about diesels but I can assure you can't drive this truck long twisting it to 4000 RPM befor it changes gears.
Get it checked as soon as you can. Please don't drive it until you do. If you do a big problem can be created.

I really don't think it's the tranmission. It seams to shift into every gear (I count them). I do not let it get that high anymore but it does get to almost 3000 out of first gear. Instead of the RPMs being around 1k -2k it's between 2k-3k. the EX will go just fine like normal just the higher RPMs. the water temp just happened this mourning.
