Is my rear end fubar'ed?
Yesterday on the way home from work, I broke an axle shaft (rear driver side). I went to the junk yard and got a repacement today. When I looked to try to see why it broke, I found that the spindle/hub has a bad bearing and it is wobbleing, thus making the weight of the truck ride on the axle. This is causing the axle to rub against the axle housing. The axle housing is now ovaled out at the end and I cant get the spindle nut off to replace the bearing (without stripping the threads). With the axle housing oval like that at the end; am I screwed? I'm thinking I may have to swap out the whole rear end. Somebody please tell me I'm wrong!
This is on a 92 f-350 4x4 (sterling).

Yeah, it sounds like it's toast.
Not the worst thing in the world, they're easy enough to find, easy to replace, and not too expensive. You should be able to find a working 10.25 for about $300 or less. If you pop the cover off and check out the inside, it's tight, you're good to go with it. It also must be the same gear ratio as what you have now, most are 3.55 or 4.10.
You can't get another bearing in there? You might be able to heat the tube with a torch and try to bend the tube back into shape using skilled strokes of a hammer but probably a temporary fix.

Ya, I could take the rest of the rear end out of the truck I just pulled this axle out of. I believe the list price for a complete axle was only $249.99 (plus maybe I could work a deal because "somebody else already took an axle shaft out of it"). That heat trick might just work, as long as I don't mess up the threads so I can't get that nut back on tight. Maybe I'll try that, thanks for the idea.
