I have a 99 dually and have to change the emergency brakes. What size socket do I need to pull the spindles. It is a dana 6.25 I am told by ford. Please help if any Know. auto zone, ford and napa haven't been able to tell me, can you believe that, Ford! Thanks Chet
If it the same as my '99 dually, it measures 2 3/4" outside diameter at the 4 lugs, 1 9/16" on the shaft dia.. here is a pic.. I got mine at schucks/Oreileys... around $25..(PowerBuilt spindle nut # 648476)
Be sure to torque to the proper amount when re assembling.. Don't have the spec's right now..
Thank you Clintbonnie and Blackbeltdually I appreciate your quick response. I plan on doing this tomorrow I hope. I was suppost to leave for wyoming Thursday but will be lucky to get out by Sunday now. Is the tork 60psi? And why did your emergency brake go out, seals I guess I'll know soon here. I see no grease but they don't hold and pedal is strong. Chet
This is the method I used for re assembling the nut, etc..
When you re-install the hub nut, push in on the socket so the ratcheting parts of the hub nut don't engage and tighten to 70 lb/ft and then back it off 90º. Now retorque it to 18 lb/ft to 20lb/ft max.
Slide axle back in and torque the bolts to 77 lb/ft.
