Here's what I have done so far, let's see if anyone has any ideas:
Oil Change with rotella 15w-40
New ICP
New pass side valve cover and rear uvch plug - the rear glow plug connector was burned.
New Glow plugs - motorcraft
New GPR-109
Cleaned out EBP Sensor and tube
IPR o-rings replaces 10k miles ago
Symptoms:
1.the truck just doesn't seem to have as much power as it used to
2. after I did the glow plugs on the driver's side, the truck will be cruising along at about 30mph and occasionally if I give it a little skinny pedal it will lag as if the injectors are getting the signal late, almost like something is stuck and then the motor kicks in quickly.
3. loud knocking from one cylinder, I think number 8.
Otherwise the truck seems smoother. My wife even commented on how much better it sounds.
sounds like an injector is going out the window, youd be suprised how much less ***** these trucks willhave when when cylinder is down. can always send the injector to jim and have him test it
When's the last time you change your fuel filter and cleaned the screen? A knocking #8 is often a sign of lack of fuel. The injectors fire in terms of milliseconds, so if you feel like there is a delay when you mash on the skinny pedal, I'd check things that might react slower than that. Does it feel like the pedal is going bad? Got any boost leaks that may be slowing the spool up of the turbo? (up pipes and boots)?
If it's an injector issue, you should be able to see that with a scanner watching rotational velocity or perdel readings.
The fpr screen is clean. I just did that 2 weeks ago.
The fuel filter was good then also, but since then I have run a tank of B5 and a tank of regular ulsd with diesel Kleen, so it could need attention.
I wouldn't be surprised if the up pipes were leaking. When the truck had bad injectors it was smoking from around there when I had a cold start in the morning.
I sure hope it isn't and injector, riderace. I can't be without my truck for long.
I will check the filter in the morning and report back. I wish I had a way to check my fuel pressure, but I am out of town right now and it will have to wait until I get home. Thanks for the replies.
if it is an injector you can slam out out in about an hour, its really simple actually, a little daunting at first but we can walk you threw it, but it does sound like a fuel knock. any way you can get us a video?
I haven't been able to do a video but I did check the fuel pressure with a stick style gauge. It read about 58psi at idle. The problem seems to be intermittent. The sound coming from the engine doesn't have that deep diesel sound. It's like it is a higher pitched cackling, especially when under a load. Maybe I'm hearing something other than the injectors? Would a leak at the up pipe sound like that?
your fuel pressure is just a smidge under prefered but not low, if you have access to a scanner, a good one! run a CCT test to see if you can audibly hear a lower injector sound.
