Does anybody know how to tell with no codes if you have a glow plug getting weak or bad? I drove my cousins truck the other day and her truck same year 6.0 was quiet comparied to mine. I have what sounds like spark knock or random sound that i hear at idle were her's seems smooth consitant sound. She does have a 4in turbo back exhaust and mine is completey stock with no EGR. When you add 4in turbo Kitty delete does the motor clean up and spark knock sound is at the muff instead of motor?
the glowplugs are only on for a max duration of 2min.
to awnser your question directly disconnect the glowplug busbars and measure from componet side to ground readings should be around 1-2 ohms threw the busbar
Cheezit,
Is the bus bar the main plug harness on each side of motor? I have torn this engine down to oil cooler rebuild, egr delete, cleaned carbon and rust from turbo 125,000 miles and thats as far as i got. Just wondering if there is a failure in glow plugs during normal operation? Also on a diff note I hear the turbo spool up and down on windy flat highway, is that normal? the truck still has lots of power. I pull a 22ft ranger bass boat 4500 LBS after egr delete better than my 2004 f-150.
yes the connectors are the ones on the left and right side of the engine. each connector is a 4 pin.
its kinda normal to hear a little knock as the engine lights from very high compression something like 18:1 on this engine. the compression superheats the fuel charge and that is what causes it to ingite. the glowplugs are only there to preheat to get her going after its 2 min timer they stay off till the next key cycle.
