I found this horn ring on Fleabay but the seller didn't know what it was from and listed it as a Vintage Ford Horn Button.
I won it at $9.99. I'm waiting for it to arrive but I figured for $10 I would take a chance since it certainly looked correct and even if it isn't I could use the "Product of Ford" emblem in a repro ring (since the emblem costs $36). Based on the picture, do you think it will fit my '64?
Yes it should but I believe there's a different spring for the horn ring, likely another member will provide info and part number. If find you will need to order the spring suggest adding couple of 'horn button brushes' to the order I found they tend to break easily; recently removed the horn ring and the brush went flying now faced with the delimma of taking out the gas tank for $5 item.
Yeah...I need to order all of the parts behind the ring anyway. I think I'm going to need to pull the steering wheel because I tried shorting the horn at the wheel to test it and got nothing. I tested the horn to the battery and it works fine. Not sure what has been done but the column shift collar has been changed at some point so there may be parts missing behind the wheel also.
These Custom Cabs & Regular Cabs (same applications) used the same 3 spoke steering wheel, so the ring will also fit Standard Cabs.
As Dave says, the spring used with the horn ring (CODZ13A807B) is different than used with the horn button (CODF13A807B).
Carpenter does not list the horn ring spring. There are a few available NOS from Ford Dealers, obsolete parts vendors...lemme know.
The horn brush comes with the insulator as original (C2OZ13A821A Kit). Carpenter lists this part but says it takes two. It does not, it only takes one.
The horn brush and insulator fit on the OUTSIDE of the steering wheel. Remove the horn ring (or button), there is a hole in the wheel's metal flange where both fit into, insulator first...the brush fits into it.
People remove the steering wheel, then tilt it (are unaware these parts are there), so the horn brush falls oughtta the steering wheel.
People re-install the steering wheel, then wonder why the horn no longer blows. The answer is: The horn brush is MIA.
The insulator is plastic, is hand pressed into the wheel...it's a tight fit, so it usually doesn't fall out. Usually...
