Right, mister "certified master mechanic". It's easy to see who your REAL hero is. So it's appropriate for YOU to mock other members having trouble, but when talk turns to someone like YOU not being able to figure something out, the thread needs to be closed, huh?

I'll second that Steve83. Here's another, "I am Diesel Dummy, Master Mechanic of the Universe!" quote referring to something as simple as working on balljoints,

he makes it sound so easy , actuley its a lot of hard work and if you have never done any type of work like this you'd probley be better off taking to a pro like me.
As long as we're on the, "What get's me!" topic I'll be more than happy to jump in. So-What get's me is taking my vehicle to a shop and paying $70 an hour and having to put up with the fragile ego of the mechanic in back who thinks he knows everything and is more than willing to remind me that the only route to Heaven is thru his shop. I'm not talking of every pro mechanic- just a very few handful. The owner's of shops that employ guys like this need to make sure that they lock the doors to the shop in the morning so the mechanic doesn't have the opportunity to use the customer as a feel-good tool. It would also help to put up plenty of mirrors in the back so the mechanic can admire himself often.

That said, hats off to those mechanics that AREN'T like this (which I do think is most of you). I feel if one really likes his/her job then it definately shows in workmanship and ability to work with people. To those people/businesses I regularly tell them that I do appreciate the job they did for me and "I'll be back!" These people don't need to stroke themselves because they truly get satisfaction from a job done well and a happy customer. You also won't find them drumming for business on a net-forum because customers are already lined up at the shop door wanting to obtain their services.

Randy

Steve you misunderstood my post, try reading it again this time with an open mind. i know who and why this thread was started for. nice way to conduct yourselfs on a forum such as this!

seems like some (you know who you are) here on FTE have (or think they have) had controll of this UBB for so long they feal they own it and know everything and there word is GOD and everyone else pails in comparison to there self imposed greatness.

i on the other hand think its funny and entertaining. personal attacks aimed at me on this web site will in no way alter my status as a tech and the amount of knowlage i possess.

let me try to explain my other post so Steve can understand it in a shallow minded sort of way.
i think its funny when someone who reads sites like this and listens to someone on sites like this when it comes to repairing there truck, and after all the advice they have been given still hasnt fixed there problem then I get the pleasure of actuley repairing there truck right the first time and could have saved them time and money when they eat crow and have to bring it to my shop.
Steve i dont have a problem with you , nor do i feal the need to FLOOD this site in every forum with information pertaining to everyones problems then post links to personal web sites to stroke my ego. My reputation as a mechanic speaks for itself and my customers will back it up.

i have been involved with several UBB sites such as this over the years and i can only hope that the people in charge of FTE will not let threads such as this to get started in the future.

nobody likes to be attacked for what they do for a living and and attacking someone for what they do for a living is wrong and should not be allowed on sites like this or anywhere in the real world.

We are all entitled to our opinion, a great thing about this world.

It's my *opinion*,

first > that your's is a somewhat fuzzy quote, and hardly specific to *someone*, it is more a generalized statement without.

So,

I have noticed that there are a few professional auto mechanics that post on this board.

Correct, there are

I like having the knowledge and the expertise.

As I'm sure we all would

However, I have noticed that they make the same mistakes most pros do,

Who is *They* ?
The few professional mechanics on this board ?
Have you or they specifically identified them/ themselves as Pros?
Out of all the **un-countable** Licensed mechanics (pros),
How many have you met?

that is that they *almost always* recommend replacing the most expensive parts first.

Actually,on the contrary,it's been my experience that the people on here with TONS on experience seem to extend ways to diagnose the problem thus avoiding purchasing anything until the reason for the problem has been determined.
I wish more in the field mechanics at $75/hr shops would do this,or at least remove the new part put it back on the shelf and replace the still working old part back on the vehicle.

This to me is what makes FTE so great, is that there are so many thrifty people on here trying to save a buck for others, so they don't NEED to spend it unless they really have to.
That is genuine help.

That's been my experience.

Also, It's a really tough thing to offer that *Being There* helpfulness when one is typing on a computer.

In response to Deisel Dummy. Quote: "Randy-what's your problem?"

Cut the bull. I've watched your posts and anytime someone with any "real" knowledge posting for the true benefit of those of us that want to learn, your on them like the young bull that wants to take over the herd. Try less aggression and accept that people like Steve83 and others have a wealth of knowledge and that we want to hear from them too. Respect, as a knowledgable tech/mechanic, will be earned not demanded. I could care less what your certification number is. I could care less how many posts you make or don't make. And I could care less whether or not you get a kick out of being the man of the day by rescuing some shadetree repair job that went south. I do care about learning more, and the more knowledgable people that I have access to ( whether their shadetree mechs. or certified techs.) the better off I figure I'll be. If I took everything to the pro shop then why in the he%& would I need to visit this site on a daily basis? I think I would be safe in assuming that most everyone on here wants to know more about their trucks or wants to know how to fix them theirselves or wants to be able to talk the shop tech in a knowledgable way. Combined with all the other knowledgable contributors, I really do feel you can do alot to help us all out. With the way you approach things tho it makes it difficult to differentiate between ego and fact. One last thing- maybe next time, instead of criticizing that shadetree mech. for botching the job, try remembering the mistakes you made while you were learning. Remember that screwing up is a fact in the learning process and then pat him on the back for at least trying. Who knows, he might just become one of your most loyal customers.

Be Courteous and Respectful
================================================== ===============
Do not post vulgar, obscene, sexually explicit, racial epithets,
harassing, abusive, hateful, libelous, expletives, derogatory or
defamatory words or phases, in any variation. The goal of Ford
Truck Enthusiasts, Inc. is to be a family friendly service and
such content undermines that goal.

I am closing this thread because due to the personal comments toward each other that should never have happened in the 1 st place.

Please Take a deep breath, Everyone.

randy what is your problem ?
I was gonna offer a possible answer to that question, but I think Randy covered it.

DD (I hate to use your full screen name because I don't want it to look like I'm using it against you)
I read your post - how open does my mind need to be to decipher the enigma of 4 words (even with the misspelling)? I guess my mind is just too shallow to understand it as anything other than the sophomoric sarcastic jibe that everyone else sees that it is.

As to your next post:
seems like some (you know who you are) here on FTE have (or think they have) had controll of this UBB for so long they feal they own it
I'd like to know who. Can you enlighten us?
know everything and there word is GOD and everyone else pails in comparison to there self imposed greatness.
Are you referring to yourself?
personal attacks aimed at me on this web site
Could you quote some of the personal attacks aimed at you on this web site? I haven't noticed any, but I don't read ALL the forums, so I guess I missed them. I do, however, see some personal attacks FROM you...
let me try to explain my other post so Steve can understand it in a shallow minded sort of way
Try again - you still sound childish & paranoid.
then I get the pleasure of actuley repairing there truck right the first time and could have saved them time and money when they eat crow and have to bring it to my shop
I genuinely pity anyone who HAS to bring you his vehicle. You strike me as a vindictive predatory mechanic who sincerely hates anyone who wants to fix his own vehicle, and you also seem like the type of mechanic who INSPIRES people to want to fix their own vehicles.
Steve i dont have a problem with you
Liar.
nor do i feal the need to FLOOD this site in every forum with information pertaining to everyones problems
Obviously - but the reason people post is to GET HELP with their problems. You're among the few who seems to enjoy teasing & mocking them.
post links to personal web sites to stroke my ego
I won't deny a certain degree of pride in what I've done to my truck and the information that I've amassed, but I make it available to anyone who's interested AT NO CHARGE. As it happens, the site that hosts my pictures offers them for sale, but I don't get a penny IF anyone has EVER bought one of them. Not even if they sold a million copies of each. Can you say the same? No - you make your living off of people who don't know. One of my hobbies is helping people become less dependent on people like you. And if someone were to take the time to count, I suspect he would find I had posted more links to OTHER PEOPLE'S sites than to mine, but who cares?
reputation as a mechanic speaks for itself
Except that no one on this BBS seems to know your rep as a mechanic - all we know is your rep as a forum member, and it's not looking too good.
i have been involved with several UBB sites such as this over the years
Which ones? Maybe we could learn more about you by browsing THOSE archives...
i can only hope that the people in charge of FTE will not let threads such as this to get started in the future
Read back thru this thread - it was very friendly until you posted. That fact suggests the best way to keep threads from turning ugly in the future...
nobody likes to be attacked for what they do for a living
No one attacked anyone for any reason until you stirred things up.
attacking someone for what they do for a living is wrong and should not be allowed on sites like this or anywhere in the real world
Want a little cheese with that whine? The world is tough. Get over it. Not every post complaining about professional mechanics is a personal attack at YOU. You're not that important. (Talk about EGO!) No one here knew or cared that you were a mechanic until you piped in.
