I had heard that before about patches being from just a couple suppliers. It is actually a pretty good replacement and if I can figure out how to not butcher it in the process of getting it to fit I think it will turn out well. I'm going to keep in mind that if I screw it up badly a new patch isn't that expensive and it's not the end of the world.

yep.. I screwed up the right side.. left fit nice..
ended up replacing the right side (chalk it up to learning experience!)
when i did my panel i had to tweek it a bit, not at the bottom but in the middle beside the door, the angle was not lining up with the door, these trucks were not made percise enough to make one panel that would fit all of them, trust me if you seen the countless hours i have spent filling door gaps, making new inner door corners ect, its not the aftermarket panel manufacturers fault!
Ok well I'm going to see what I can do tomorrow since I'm off for the rest of the week. I was hoping to be past this and be working on another part of the cab but I guess that's how it goes sometimes. I'll be sure to post results (good or bad).
Been needing to do both of my rear corners. I have panels to do the inner and outer on both sides. Seems like every time I go out to work on the truck I end up working on something I wasn't even planing to work on. I am 90 % done with replacing the front floor pans and the fire wall. Unlike all the shows on TV I don't have a deadline to meet, which makes it where I get to do what I want when I want. Sometimes it seems like there are so many little things to do that it makes the build look like it not going any where.
I bought the Mid-Fifties corner and would not recommend those panels to my worst enemy. On the other hand I don't know what will work. I too had a great deal of difficulty getting them to fit(you gotta love Bondo).
If you change the shape of the panel by cutting it and adding a filler, won't that change how it lines up with the door? Or did the door not line up right before?
I made my own rear bottom cab corners, I have the pics in my gallery. It wasn't too hard to do but it is time consuming.
I think it would require a lot my skill to creat a rear cab corner for a 53-56 than the 48-52 f1. I'm not trying to down play your work on your truck it's just so much more to hammer out on the later trucks. Purchasing the patch panel is the easiest approach, would be for me anyways.
If it doesn't line up in the door, all hope is lost. That said, once it's lined up in the door(the bends didn't begin to match), then it's murder to line up the rest. If your door area is still intact, I wouldn't even cut/drill out the door area. I'd leave that area and make my cut at least an inch away form the door. That would eliminate about 70% of the fitment issues.
everything does seem to line up except just the bottom area. I'm sure someone with some better fabricating skills could fix it right up. I'm going to do some cutting on it and reweld the area tomorrow and friday. I was looking at it tonight and I think I need to cut off part of the (I think it's called) flange area, make some releif cuts and reweld on some more material to make up for what was removed. I'll give it a try and see what happens. Oh, I really wish I could make my own corners ect. One of these days I'll give some major fabrication a shot. This corner will be "major fabrication" for me but I'll see how it goes. Thanks for all the help and advice.
Ok haven't had a chance to get on to this last week or the weekend. Had to do some work on my mom's house and had my 10yr olds birthday party over the weekend. I'm going to try to get around to the corner this week and see if I can get it to fit. I hope to have good news and pics later this weekend. This weather down here in Houston is too good to not take advantage.
