I am replacing the u joints in the ol 79 this week...any suggestions on which is best or just stop by the auto parts store and ask them for a set to fit a 79? There is a Ford dealer close to home, would that be better than an after market set?
You may want to take the old ones with you, to make sure the caps are the same diameter. Get new ones with grease fitting, clearance of fittings can be an issue if you are doing the front axle. The joint to the front driveshaft off my transfer case was one of those joints that has 2 different size caps because of the front transfer case yoke on my 78F250 4x4. A lot of the U joints that are called "heavy duty" don't have grease fittings, I perfer the grease fittings. I don't see the need to pay more for them from a dealer. Just my opinion, have fun!
I was under my 79 f350 yesterday greasing up the front and when I went to do the drive shaft I couldnt find any grease fittings. These look like the original u joints also. Does anyone know if the original joints came with out the grease fittings?
