turn signal

Hey guys. I wrote on my old thread that I thought I'd figured out my rear left turn singal/brake. Well I cleaned the grounds and then it started working, but then I came back later, and tried the turn signal again, and it stopped working again. This has happened a couple of times, and it's always after I have turned the signal off or have switched over to the right turn signal and then come back to the left signal that it's stopped working. Which brings me to my question. When people say to check the wire in the TSS how exactly do I check the wire? Do I unplug something and use a multi tester, or do I leave it plugged and scrape off some of the coating on the wire to get access to it? Also, what setting should I use on the multi tester to see if the left rear signal is getting power, and what should the voltage or whatever be if it is getting power? Thanks for your input.

I might give you some answers but not all.
Set your multi meter on the dcv setting that will read the 12 volt range.
You should have 12 volts at the signal light.
To check a covered wire, don't strip the insulation off, instead use a straight pin and stick it through the center of the wire (not easy but it can be done) then check for voltage, that way you can pull the pin out and not have to tape the wire.

Ok, here's the deal, used a test light and my multi tester on the wires in the TSS. Still not sure which wires are which, but they all tested between 13.7 at the highest, and 12.8 at the lowest, but all of them were over 12, although on some of them, the readings were really erratic. Also tested the left tail light, the yellow and black wire, had .01 - .02 volts, and the other wire in the tail light had 13 volts. So that I have over 12 volts on all the wires at the TSS, that indicates the problem is with the ground on the left tail light. One thing that was curious, the yellow wire with the blue stripe in the TSS with my test light, wouldn't blink, it just stayed solid when I had the left signal on. Can anyone make any sense out of this?

Should be yellow wire with black stripe...and doesn't blink on test light until the wire passes through the flasher. So closer to the TSS no blinking pulse.
