I’m back to thinking about trying to get my 1995 F-150 4x4 with a 5.0L and blown 4R70W transmission fixed up again. It has been sitting for 5 years since it blew the transmission for the second time. I wasn’t satisfied with my options back then, and don’t see many others now. As for a used transmission, what other years can I look for? They tell me the computers changed in 1996. They say most of the transmission problems weren’t fixed by Ford until 1998 or later. But by then the trucks were equipped with the modular motors. Are any of the bell patterns the same as the 5.0L?
One parts guy I asked said he thought the wiring harness plugins changed somewhere along the way also.
So my options are: stay with another lemon Ford rebuilt, or lay out BIG bucks to have some professional such as Level 10 rebuild it.
I would maybe even consider changing out the 5.0 for a 300-6 and automatic if I could find a donor.
I don't remember for sure. The boys were on a 200-mile interstate trip. It began shuddering towards the end, and when they stopped they couldn't go again. Evidently at least seals went out and lost fluid. The dealer claimed it was due to teen driver abuse and wouldn't stand behind their warrantee.
