We have a 1995 F-150 4x4 with 5.0L and 4R70W transmission, no cruise control. Transmission has failed, "the boys" are putting in some new parts.
A couple of years back, I read somewhere (maybe on here) that when re-installing the 4R70W auto transmission in the truck, it was critical that the adjustment on the TV cable was correct. Otherwise, the transmission would fail again in short time. My boys have the transmission out of the truck, and don't seem to know about this. Am I right or wrong about this, and if it is so, are there any guides you could point me to that I could print off?
This is the second failure on the transmission. I'm no transmission person, the boys think they know some parts to change. It lost the forward gears, but seems just fine in reverse. Any guesses?
The 4R70W is all electronic. There is no TV cable to adjust.
Thanks for the reply, your career description indicates you should know what you are talking about. Is the convertor controlled by the computer? (it has the overdrive) I was just wondering if any convertor other than stock Ford would have any trouble with the computer? I'm not sure what convertor was put in the last time, but I don't think they got it through Ford.
I was also wondering if we could swap in an E4OD instead, as I know where I could pick up a used one. Would it require a different computer?
Thanks,
Chuck
