Hey all I was on my way home from the Outer Banks of North Carolina this evening and my driveshaft vibration came back.
The history is that a while back I had a bad vibration and found my driveshaft had to be rebuilt. New CV and three new u joints. My vibration went away and all was well. Today about 4000 miles after the rebuild with upgraded u joints the vibration came right back.
The problem was fixed the first time but what could be wrong to do this again? Bent driveshaft? The truck has never pulled a trailer or been bottomed out, its a highway cruiser.
I will check it out. The first time this came around there was also no slop in it and they blamed it on the ball in the CV joint of the shaft. The truck is not lifted and still has stock tires etc.
Both of My Excursions have had some sort of driveline vibe. My newest (01 7.3 4X4) didnt have it when i bought it about 5000 miles ago. Only after the local dealership change a leaking pinion seal did it have a slight vibration. my 03 V10 4X4 had it bad and I never could fix it. Three driveshafts (including a brand new CV shaft), rebuilt rear, transfer case output bearing- you name it, i tried it. Neither of my X's had a factory CV shaft. The V10 had a regular shaft and the diesel has the same shaft but with the rubber dampener on it. good luck. i have become accustomed to it.
Well it was fixed for a while and was awesome for about 4000 miles. Now its back it starts shaking pretty well at 70mph then works its way down to a steady 45 mph when it starts.
I would work the parts issue. Look at the receipt and find out what parts were installed and what choices the installer had. I would bet it MADE IN CHINA on the box. On some of my problems I get 3 or more bad parts where it changes the symptoms. Is the vibration exactly like the first time?

Yeah its the exact same problem............I unbolted the shaft and the truck is as smooth as it was new. I purchased a used one off of ebay and will see how it holds up. When it comes in I am taking back the fixed original to the person who did the work.
