Drove from San Antonio, Tx. to Durango, Co. last week for 3 days of 4 wheeling out of Silverton with a couple of jeep rentals. Got to the Comfort Inn after 14 hr drive, unloaded our stuff. Went to park, made a tight right hand turn onto the space and felt the steering wheel pulse a little (thought I just hit the curb) came down later to go to town to eat and when I backed out the steering was stiff as hell. Pulled forward to pick up the guys and realized that power steering was gone. Popped the hood and noticed that lower hose on power steering pump was popped out and had fluid pulsing out of it. Needless to say this was not what I wanted to deal with 925 miles from home. Fourtantly the Ford dealer was less than a half mile away so I dropped it off Fri morning (PS: the brakes were also out due to the loss of fluid) We were able to get to Silverton and pick up X the next day.
It could have been worse I guess, we could have been in BF nowhere New Mexico without a mechanic for 200 miles and a trip totally ruined. Anyway I've heard that those cupplings are a problem so if you haven't had them replaced I'd put them on you "to do" list
