Guys I have a 1990 Bronco 351 E40D Tranny. I had the transfer case rebuilt had it built for a mud truck put it in and found out the tranny was out wont fo forward but can drive all over in reverse. Was told it was shot. So I have been looking for one. What years and vehicles can I find one that will work in mine.
Look for either a remanufactured unit from ANY year OTHER than 1990, (too many reasons for this to list) or a 1994 or later unit from any F-series with a 302, 351 or 300. (Bellhousing and bolt pattern are the same).
If you go for a unit older than 1994 make absolutely certain it has been remanufactured. Any E4OD that has been redone will already have all of the 1994 upgrades in it because as of the 1994 changes Ford made, you can't buy the older internal components anymore.
