AOD downshift problem

I have a 1988 Aerostar AOD that kicks down with a very light application of throttle. Everything else works great, smooth shifts, no slipping. good downshifts when I stop. I have a hard time speeding up or going up a hill on the interstate with out it shifting to a lower gear. My van will actually slow down when it does this because the rpm is not enough to maintain the speed with the lower gear. How do I adjust how much throttle causes a kickdown?

Thanks,
Mike

AOD downshift problem

Unless someone is pulling your leg, your transmission is an A4LD, like all the other Aerostars. Sounds most likely that your kickdown cable is out of adjustment. For a quick confirmation, look at your throttle pedal. At the top of the pedal you should see a wire cable that extends through the pedal and continues outward toward the driver's seat approximately 1 to 1.5 inches (this is just a rough estimate). If your cable end stop is closer than this to the pedal when the transmission is in PARK, then the cable requires adjustment. A decent manual will explain all the particulars.

Hope this helps.
