Exclamation missing/stalling

My 93 3.0L V6 Aerostar was "tuned up" 8 weeks ago, had tranny repair (leaking seal) 5 weeks ago, now it is spending some time with my mechanic. Since the tune-up and tran repair the poor thing had been missing and backfiring. Three days ago got in, started her up and began to drive, she wouldn't accelerate and then when I came to a stop she just died. It took several minutes to get re-started just to have it die again. After several attempts she ran long enough to get it out of everyone's way and into a parking spot. Mechanic said that all six plugs had fuel on them. A couple of weeks ago it started sounding like the muffler has a huge hole in it. When I accelerated I couldn't hear my kids talking to me from the back seat it was so loud! Any similar problems. My mechanic is working on process of elimination now because no codes recorded, fuel pump okay, fuel filter okay, regulator okay, replaced rotor, more plugs he's had it for two days and the labor is going to kill me.

missing/stalling

Tell him to check the throttle position sensor (TPS) first, then the mass air flow sensor. Both can be cleaned with good results, but the TPS sometimes requires replacement if cleaning does not help.
