It's not just navigation, it's a DVD player, has 10gig hard drive, includes the Sony speakers/subwoofer (normally ~$500 as a separate option), all touchscreen control, controls HVAC settings, Sirius radio plus travelink w/weather radar maps, etc., and more.
plus the way it looks/blends into the dash and also shows a nice big reverse camera image...both priceless!
so for the $2k, you're not just getting a simple "navigation" system....I don't know much about at all Garmin or other GPS units out there, but my factory system has taken me everywhere I wanted to go on out of town trips without any issues at all.
LMAO! So now, in order to get directions, You need the $2K Lincoln option!
More stuff that will cost $500 to diagnose, when it fails. If You can even find a competent Tech to do it!
I do like the Rear View Camera.
I agree with the NTHSB, There's to much distraction being built into vehicles today. I'm thinking there will be limits to these things soon?
I don't think I'd EVER allow a new 16 YO driver near any vehicle that had a 10 GIG sound system. My Wife was re-ended by a 17 YO while texting. Add more distractions for incompetent drivers, and more peeps are going to get hurt/killed.

A. Dealership here charges 100 for diag fees
B. I have the equipment and can be easily had by the general public to do the same type of diag that they would be able to do quickly anyway. If your place charges $500 for diag, one time code reading alone would pay for the entire software.

Don't forget the dotted lines that help with lining up that bumper trailer.

Texting may or may not have been the fault of the vehicle. I know there are a couple of phones that can be linked with sync to text, but not all.
Don't think it's just teenagers either, I've seen in all honesty, far more adults(adults by age not really by mental capacity) that have done texting and been in accidents. We just tend to think of teenagers first.
Although, I do remember one time, a person got into an accident because they were rolling down manual windows to get fresh air. Imagine that, an accident caused by something that required a manual operation, not a fancy gizmo. There is no way to "strip" these vehicles to be idiot proof. Need to make it harder for the idiots to be able to get behind the wheel.
The Nav system on the 2011s is a $2430 option. However, there is also a window sticker discount (or there was on mine) of $1000 for getting it, taking the cost to $1430.
The rearview camera is the size of the nav screen and can be zoomed in if you are trying to, say, back under a trailer tongue. Also has guidelines in different colors which indicates distance.
I have never personally owned a nav system of any sort but have a number of friends and family that do. My system is far better due to interconnectivity of all the components.
I agree with those of you who consider the cost some what pricey. I have the sync system in a new 2010 and I haven't even wondered about how to use it. In my world, I'm not even interested in having a cellphone plan, just old school I guess. For those who have and need to use it, I hope if fits your purpose. Those who have and don't use it, lets hope at least we benefit on truck resale value. Good luck to all!
I would really like to have the factory nav. unit. I like the way it looks, and fits naturally into the dash with out lugging around a handheld GPS. I also like the idea of the Sirius travel and weather maps, along with gas prices, etc. Does anyone know how accurate the POI's in it are? Are there updates for the POIs as well as the maps?
Any guesses how much it would be and to have the dealer install it? If its almost $2,500 for the unit itself...ugh

Updates to the POI database are done along with the map update, it's all included within the update. As to accuracy, that depends. Some places have been closed, but are still listed under some POIs, it just depends on what their followup policy is for verifying the POIs.
Biggest waste of 2k on the planet. Take your money and buy aftermarket. Sync sucks, the sound is a joke and the lack of an eq, actual bass, treble *****, and crappy graphics, don't even get me started with trying to get an Iphone to work properly with this thing. You would think that Ford would find a way for this thing to play nice with the most popular phone on the planet would be a priority..
