Well its almost time for plowing and of course the truck is starting to have problems again. The driver side axle is leaking pretty bad to where I don't think I can use 4wd. Kind of a problem for plowing. Is it just hopeful thinking that its just the outside seal or does the outside seal not even do much and am I going to have to pull the whole diff and tubes apart. I hope not. Never taken a carrier apart. What do you guys think?
Probably just the outside seals. Just be happy you don't have a F-250 when you're working on your front end. No matter how bad it gets with your axle, it could be worse. lol.
Lol ya I had an f250 with a 460 in it w while back. Never again. For more than one reason lol. I hope your right about it being the outside seals. Id hate to take it apart and have to do it again as im sure something else will go wrong too
Hey I'm not positive about this but I believe you will have to change the seals up around the differential. The axle tubes on a front axle should be dry and the outter seal by the end of the tube is mostly to just help prevent dust/debris/mud/water from filling up the axle tube. Its not meant as an oil seal, as far as the axles I've worked on at least. Speaking of this I gotta get around to changing my inner axle seals too!
Hmm. I thought the d60/50 solids were not dry tubes.
I don't know though. So.
I do remember somebody talking about inner seals, i think it was RRanch, but I think he was talking about the rear axle.
the d60 isnt' a full floater, so dry tubes doesn't seem right.
Thanks for the info guys. Looks like I have quite the project ahead of me. Let's see how many rusted bolts I can break off lol. Is there anything else I should do while its apart? I was thinking of shocks and add a leafs and track bar and spring bushings. Anything else? These trucks are pretty frustrating sometimes
