has anyone had any experience with the Toyo M/Ts in the SNOW AND ICE? if so, how did they perform??
i think discounttire has a special or rebate going through Thursday, so ive only got 2 days to decide, and get the deal they have going.
I have the Toyo MT's and am counting on them working well in the snow and ice. I spent a fair amount of time with my tire guy trying to decide because I have never used MT's before. Always BFG or Toyo AT's which worked great in the snow.
The tire guy told me the MT's work great as is but if I need extra traction on the ice he can sipe the center 2/3rds of the tread. Said I wouldn't want the outside lugs siped because they would wear too quickly. Guess we'll find out in a couple of months.

im reading reviews on the toyo MTs. ive been reading these for over a week now-
40% of the people say they SUCK for longevity,
50% of the people say they are the greatest tire EVAARRR!
10% of the people say they SUCK on ice, or snowy conditions, even in 4WD.
i dont think those are the results i need, especially when towing 14,000 pounds or more, rain / shine / snow / ice / etc.
- it makes me feel like i should just wear out these BFG's All Terrains. of all the various tires ive had, these just seem to be the best all around. one of two areas they arent that great but they make up for it in other ways.
Ok so I was all set to get the BFG A/T's in a 285/65/20 and the tire store had the Toyo M/T's sitting on the floor in 35/12.50/20.
He said several people have gotten up to 70,000 miles with them, I just about can't believe that. I said if I put them on and don't like them in 30 days will you take them off and swap out for BFG's? He said yes and he'll put it on the contract.
Sooooo, I've got nothing too loose right? I'll be pulling my 5th wheel in two weekends so that'll be covered in the 30 days. So I think Epic has them right? Except I look online and they say max air pressure is 65psi, that won't work with the TPMS right?
OK dealer says no way, the TPMS is coded for 80- psi and swapping them for 65 psi won't work becasue the computer won't recognize them.
Epic how does your's work?
I run my tires (fronts and backs) at 66 psi and the TPMS hasn't alerted in a couple of months. I do check them every few weeks because the TPMS will alert at about 62 - 63 psi. I was also surprised by the 65 max psi rating on the tires because I always figured a 10 ply E rated tire would just always be 80 psi. Not so and not necessary. Frankly, I like running them a little softer anyway. Improves the ride when hooked up and not and I do believe this will allow the tires to last longer.
I'd say if you have a 30 day satisfaction guarantee, what do you have to lose?
note to self... get a 30-day guarantee with every new tire purchase. then always time purchases to be right before a long road trip. then exchange tires after the trip
Whats wrong with Nittos? Been running them for years. I ran BFG also, didn't last for crap.
I haven't used Toyos either.

It's so funny how everyone's experience is different. I got 72K miles out of my first set of BFG AT KO's and then 50ish out of my second. 40K on a set of Toyo AT's on my Excursion and they had plenty left when I sold it.
I don't expect these tires to do that well however. Too much power and weight in the 8,000 lb 400/800 SD. Something's got to give and I expect it to be the rubber.

Do you still have stock rims?
Does the tire bow out?

my only problem with Nitto Terra Grapplers was my experience with them.
they wore out kinda fast, and sucked in the mud. they felt like a bald tire in the mud.
but the fast wear could have been from being 12.50 wide on a stock rim, or the leveling kit in my truck, etc.
so im not saying they are garbage, just that i didnt get what i needed out of my first set. it might have also been that they were d range tires, and i should have had e range.

I ran 37" toyo M/T's on my old F250 for a few years. They seem to work pretty good in the snow, ice is another story. Last winter, I had about 2-3' of snow dropped in our area, no plows for days. I decided to take matters into my own hands, threw it in 4low and blazed a nice trail out of the neighborhood.
I've never had a tire that was good on ice, they all suck unless you switch out to a specific winter tire. In 2wd, I'd get stuck everywhere with the Toyo's, but that's been the story with all my previous mudders (BFG's, PJ's, Super Swampers). Once in 4hi or low, no problems at all. I imagine the weight in the rear (or lack there of) had a large impact on wheel spin.
By the way, I had 30k on my Toyo M/T's before I sold the truck. They had another 10k or so left on 'em.
I've been running Hankook Dynapro AtM 285/70/17's on my 2011 F-350 Dually, they seem to be working great on the truck. I heard it from a friend of mine that they hold up really good on 1-ton trucks so I gave them a try. So far really glad I'v purchased them. Truck came with bfg's and with-in the first couple times pulling my trailer they started getting bubbles on the sidewall, which I beleive means they were too soft of a sidewall for the truck. Time will tell how the new tires will hold up, but so far they have outlasted the bfg's.
