1st. post! Hello all my name is clay and i just picked up a 71 f100 360 sport custom. Truck is in pretty good shape, little rust and the motor seems to have been rebuilt in the last 10 yrs or so. purrs like a kitten just runs alittle hot..has a new radiator, hoses therostat so Im guessin the freeze plugs are going bad?
As I have inspected this truck over a few times I am baffled at the little handle that is in the interior of the truck, driver side...not hooked to the seat? I have a manual coming but hope someone can answer this for me?

Welcome to FTE
If the handle is mounted on the floor outboard of the drivers seat, it's attached to the fuel valve that switches the In-Cab fuel tank to the optional 25 gallon auxillary tank and vice versa.
If factory, there is a toggle switch mounted to the left of the steering column that switches the dash fuel gauge from one tank to the other.
1970/72 F100/350 Stylesides: The 25 gallon auxillary tank is mounted on the inside of the drivers side frame rail. Has an exposed fuel cap/filler neck that pokes thru the drivers side quarter panel below the raised scallop line (Bumpside).
If the cap/filler neck is behind a fuel door, or is mounted elsewhere, or there are two (saddle) tanks, one right, one left...the tank(s) is/are not genuine Ford.

Freeze plugs will not cause an engine to run hot unless they are missing or leaking and letting the coolant run out. How hot is a little hot? Do you have a gauge on it? Is the radiator large enough? When does it get hot, sitting in traffic? Is the ignition timing correct? Just ideas.
