IF you can find a 427 and that's a big IF, It'll work fine. Same engine family.

You can buy 427 engines from Jack Roush, but it is based on the Windsor block. See it here:
http://www.roushparts.com/pdf/427R.pdf

In that case, it might not bolt up.

I also think that Popular Mechanics ran a little article about a company that was reviving the FE 427. I don't know how they'd do it because the true FE 427 was an alloy cast iron block (lots of Nickle) with side bolted mains and was a side oiler. That's not your run of the mill casting. I'll try to look up the article.

Seems to me if it's the same block, you could just have the 360 bored to 427.

In 99% of the 4.050 bore blocks around (that's 360-390's) the blocks can't take that much of an overbore due to issues with core shift. Some "thick wall" 390 blocks can take an overbore to 4.13 but they are few and far between. Only a sonic check will tell for sure how far it can be safely taken.

4.13" is a standard 428 bore. The 427s are 4.25" bore. You'd have a real hard time finding any FE that was not originally a 427, that is good for that bore size.

You can buy new 427 blocks from Genesis and Shelby, in iron and aluminum. Be prepared to pay $3-6k for just the block.

Some guys still have or can find 427 Ford blocks. Try DSCmotorsport or Keith Craft. They both like the FEs.
These will probably cost a grand or better just for the unmachined block.

You can find 428s for less. They run a longer stroke and smaller bore that works well with trucks. Check out then FE engine forum for more information.

I've had a 427 and I'd really advise you to go with a 428 instead.
Sure, the 427's have quite a name and a certain evil mystique about them, but they're very tempermental and extremely expensive to repair.
If you're just dead set on having one anyway, just check around the commercial truck graveyards. They're getting much harder to find nowadays, but you can usualy find an old two barrel 427 somewhere if you look hard and long enough. They will be tough two bolt blocks and should serve you pretty well unless you plan on racing or have a case of terminal lead foot. And if you build one, go with the low or medium riser and the hydraulic lifters unless you have nothing else to do but spend your life adjusting mechanical lifters. Another thing about 427's is that if you leave them running at the pump they won't fill up.
Go with a nice 428 instead.

Steve
