It's fall already chat thread

Got away from me that we are into the official fall season, but that isn't much of a surprise the way my schedule has been lately...

No, it's not fall... it can't be fall. If it's fall, then that means winter is coming... and I have too much to do before winter shows up! It simply cannot be fall yet.

Hmm... awful lotta leaves on the ground for "Indian Summer", though.

In a normal year, we generally get started in early September. Hardly anyone got started up until the last couple weeks this year...

Got it in later than usual, so it comes out later than usual... The wet spring started us out late, the wet fall kept it late...

The mud isn't as much the problem as the water running out of the ground... we had 36" of rain through the spring and summer months... and we didn't get nearly as much as some. The compaction is a problem with it being wet too. The moisture is just about right now, but had they started picking early in September like usual, the moisture was way high. These cooler nights have helped dry it pretty good lately. The field here was about 16%, still need dried some, but earlier in the month was closer to 20%, and with the price of the fuel to dry the corn, nobody was in a hurry to pick it too early and pay the drying bill.
