I have searched and havent really found any good info. I have one that is squeaking in reverse so I need to get it changed. From what I have seen, the rear one on the shaft is one of the goofy staked ones.
Advance Auto Parts shows a $93 kit for this, do i really need it? Or can I just grind the tabs off with a dremel and use a regular u joint? It also shows 3 required, I only see 1 that would need this kit...now I am confused.
I replaced the u-joints on my '05 with greasable ones (made by Moog I think) to avoid this issue in the future. The only issue I had with the new ones is that since my truck is lifted the angle is a little steeper, and therefore the rear grease fitting interferes with the turining of the driveshaft. I simply replace the grease fitting with an set screw to keep dirt out and then insert a fitting when I need to grease it.
Not sure if that helps you, but I only had to u-joints on my rear drive shaft, despite the auto parts place having an option for 3.
