Slick Fuel Capacity +++++
On the '65 when I bought it and tried to switch tanks it would start to run very crappy. 45yrs of crud in the tank. Because the P/O had already installed 2 extra tanks and holes were put in bedside for filler tube I decided to replace said tanks, did not have any luck finding ones that were exact fit so decided to just make my own. First thought steel then thought for rust reasons to just build them out of aluminum, look much nicer too! The first tank is now completed. It was a FUN project to do.
My total fuel capacity is now 56 Gallons so even @ 12mpg the fuel range should be approx 672 Miles!
I installed another gauge for left and right tanks. The tank valve has left right and center. The stock fuel gauge will be used for stock tank. 2nd gauge for the Aux tanks.
Thought I would share a couple pics... If any interest I can show exactly how I did it. I was also able to calibrate the sending unit so I know exactly where I am at with fuel in each tank. The completed tank only weighs 22lbs. 18.06 gallon capacity Each.

I know what you are saying about bed space but had it not been for the existing hole by P/O I would not have done it either. It would have been a very simple fix to fill in the hole and a BUNCH less time involved but because it was original paint I did not want to mess with it there.
On another note, Its in an area that is seldom used to haul anything and I can still fit a 8' piece of plywood etc. Its not that usable of a space.
My Truck #2 has a 50 Gallon Aux tank but that one will probably be removed and sold.
Slick #3 has a engine that will get much less than 10mpg and I will REALLY need the extra fuel storage. It will most likely get a homebuilt inside the frame tank once I figure out the best place to put it.
I do plan on building one for my 66 F100 very soon. Not sure if it will be stainless or Aluminum. This truck would have gotten a frame unit had the P/O not already installed a couple in the bed.
@ 7-9 mpg with the 66 a small tank behind the seat is not going to cut it.
I would need a gas pump at home to make it to town then fill up in town and again when I got home! LOL It would be quite a few stops to make it cross country.
Material costs to build the Aluminum tanks was around 140.00 each. Not including the Argon, rods etc

That tank looks great!
What do you plan to put under the tank to keep water/crud from getting under it (& staying there to rust the bed)?
I'd might suggest some roofing tar or such to set the tank on to completely seal the tank to the bed.
What is your plan in how to deliver the fuel to the engine?
Will it tie into the OEM tank line or will you have an inline switch?

I have a 3way valve and then a separate switch and gauge for the Aux tanks.
All I need to do is put the selector switch to left, center, right. The stock gauge works on Center position and will always read fuel in that tank. The Aux gauge will read left or right tanks by flipping a separate switch.
The selector switch is manual so no electrical issues.
That's what I'm thinking. My original "in cab" tank is now in the very front of my bed. I'd like to instead have one under the bed.
I had a guy give me an estimate for an aluminum shop built tank a few weeks ago, I think he told me $250. His tank looked great, he had his truck in the local car show "under constuction" with no bed on it so the tank really stood out.
