While browsing at the local yard today, I found a pickup identical to my 84 BURIED under a stack of cars. There was enough room to wiggle out a good tailgate. I scrounged up the latch parts it was missing from another truck, and bought it complete for sixty three bucks.
Best part is that it's the right color and has the same chrome.
Wish we had some yards period that had anything of our aged trucks!
There are few yards in Maine, most iron is shipped to Canada for razor blades!
Though I hear tell there is a new one just opened within a few miles from me, I know it used to be a junk yard that was closed for a long time, there is a lot of old iron in it (older then ours), Unfortunately I'm strapped down and can't get up!
There is an LKQ close, every time I go in there asking about 80-96 stuff they just laugh and tell me to get lost, we don't sell junk!
good find! we're lucky enough to have a lot of good yards in my area. the sad part, is one yard out here buys most of their inventory through the auto auctions, and nice running and driving 80-86 trucks are sent to their death. i have a shed, garage, storage building, and basement full of parts i've scavenged off of these trucks. it's too bad in the state of il you can't sell a salvage vehicle out of the yard, bc i have witnessed beautiful trucks sent to the crusher. it's enough to make you cry.
dohc, Where abouts are these yards ... Got some names or PH numbers, I am in hopes of making a LD trip to some yards and I'm building a hit list for my trip!
Of course, It's not happening anytime soon, next summer at the earliest, I need to finish our house first, I got hurt so thats on hold at the moment ... We may hire it done now, it's going to be a few more months before I'll be up solid!

fh : )_~
i'll compile a list for you tonight. the yards are spread out through northern il, nw il (chicago area), and southern wi. my friends and i do quite a bit of junkyard hopping every week. i guess that explains why we're all so damn broke.
Dohc, That would be totally AWESOME, I am only interested in yards that have our era ((80-86)96) trucks!
I hope to make a loop through the upper half around to the lower half ... I really want to see Texas, want to see how big the Queers and Steers are ...
I'm only kidding Texans ... I enjoy eating a good steer and I disagree with queers!
I really want to see y'alls state, I hear it's BIG, wide open and BEAUTIFUL!
I picked up 4 brand new shocks, and a complete brand new exhaust system (this stuff isn't even dusty) as well as a headlight bezel and pair of windshield pillar trims (not cracked and the correct color) for $75 today. I would have got a complete brand new drag link with all new tie rod ends but it was a 250 and I have an f100. Someone must have done a pile of work to this truck and then had a catastrophic failure somewhere to scrap it. Odd... Love finding brand new parts at the wrecker, got a radiator that still had the stickers on it for $40 a month ago. Now I just need to find some brand new front brakes...
Festus, if you are coming through New Orleans, you need to go to the pull a part here. There is a rolling inventory of about 20 of these trucks at one time in there.
Go to Pull-A-Part website. They give all of their locations and an idea of their inventory along with prices. The inventory is not always up to date though.
