Unhappy Multiple codes (some seem a contradiction)

My apologies if this has been posted before. I searched but didn't find it.
Anyway, I have a 94 F-250, 4X2 w/5.8 and E40d. Today I was able to run the codes and found that I have 4 codes stored. I don't have any trans gears past 2nd. Also I don't have any turn signals. Brake lights work as well as 4 ways. The codes are;
code 53-Throttle positioner above max (seems easy enough)
code 63- Throttle positioner above max (this seemed improbable)
code 62- Converter clutch error (may explain the no 3 up gears?)
code 75- Brake on/off circuit closed (maybe code 62 related?)

I pulled the brake light switch and tested it with my VOM. Checks out not to mention that I have brake lights. I wonder if there's a bigger issue with the wiring with the TPS being both high and low (unless that signifies a bad switch)
Also on the dash, I get low range light coming on but stays on brightly when I rev up the motor. Seems odd to say the least since it's a 4X2. I'm just a wrench when I have to guy and this seems a bit beyond me. Any help appreciated!

I could see 53 & 63, showing the TPS is malfunctioning. Code 62 , Transmission 4/3 fault, seems appliciable to the converter clutch error. what I am confused about is the LOW range flashing and staying lit when revving the engine. The TPS error could be from the TPS not functioning at all.

Hopefully someone else will chime in on the results you have displayed.

One of the handiest gadgets in my tool collection is my Actron CP9087 sensor tester. It will tell you in about 20 seconds if your TPS is shot. See the reviews for the CP9087 at amazon.com

I read about a guy with a Jeep who installed a rebuilt auto trans. The new trans was shifting as badly as the old. All he ever needed was a new 40 buck TPS.

Not sure if your trans is tied into the TPS or not, but the first thing to do is to test the TPS.

The first thing to do is properly read the codes. A '94 has 3-digit trouble codes.

BTW, your code 75 probably means you did'nt tap the brake when indicated. I'd disregard that one.

OOPS, good catch by Jason. 91 & newer do have 3 digit codes.

What are you using for a scanner??

Thanks for all the input. As for the scanner, I was using the jumpered plug and a test light. I thought that all the OBD1's were just 2 digits?? I have a scanner but it's at my brothers house and I won't see him until Sunday. The low range light is the one that's really got me stumped?? I'll grab the TPS from my Bronco (same year and engine) and see what happens.
Thanks again for at least some direction and help!

Minor correction from my observations: Ford started the transition to 3 digit codes in '91. I have seen a few verified instances of 2 digit codes as late as '93. It is rare, but not impossible.

This thread proves my point about 2 digit codes into '93: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...need-help.html

Yes, I read that post before I read the codes. That is why I thought they were only two digit. The last OBD1 Ford I worked on needing to read codes was an Aerostar. I think it was only 2 digit but that was years ago. I'll re-read the codes and hopefully have a better idea of what's going on.

I bought a new Accutron OBD1 code reader. All the codes came up the same with the KOEO (key on engine off) but I was able to pull a 159 with KOER. I did this test 6 times and always got the same result.
The one thing that really has me stumped is the "low range" light. You can't see it on with the truck idling. Once you rev it up, the light comes on, sorta like a battery or alternator light. Strange. If you guys are still giving it some thought, throw some ideas my way please.

The PCM will display either 2 or 3 digit codes, not a mix of both. I still suspect the 2 digit codes are not legitimate, you really should be getting 3 digit codes.

What problem are you trying to resolve?

I guess the biggest issue I'm trying to resolve is the lack of gears past second in the transmission and the "low range" light coming on. The truck runs pretty good right now. When I shut the truck off then and leave it sit then restart it later, I don't have a cel until I rev up the motor. I'm not as concerned about that at the moment. Just want to know if it needs a trans or do I have other electrical issues.
Thanks for all the replies
