so i picked up a 97 crew cab a few days ago and when i was on my way home the CEL came on
i pulled the codes and i come up with 23, 32, 33
now i looked these codes up but cant really find any good info as to what might be the cause. ive learned throwing parts at it doesn't really work so i was hoping some of you who may have some insight could help me out here.
code 23 refers to the TPS, it says "throttle positioner sensor out of self-test range". i had a spare one laying around so i swapped it and reset the computer. took it for a spin and it came back so i guess that aint the problem.
i should also mention the truck cranks for a good 5 seconds before it fires. its not that the cranking is slow it just wont fire like it should. other then that it seems to run just fine
Your 1997 should be displaying 3 digit codes. Ford started to transition from 2 to 3 digit codes in 1991. It is EXTREMELY rare for a 1997 truck to display 2 digit codes.

hmm well thats interesting, now im confused lol. maybe thats why they arnt making sense. so then i must be seeing 232 and 333?
ok so i figured out what i was seeing, what i thought was 3 codes once, was one code twice. code 332. says its the egr, my guess would be the sensor as every one ive replaced was the sensor and not the valve its self. my luck itll be the valve this time
Should be easy enough to measure the EVP signal. It may be worth doing a visual check to see if someone removed the vacuum line from the manifold through the EVR to the EGR valve.
