Wow..this would certainly make me more of a believer in the EcoBoost (although 10 years of use in hot and cold weather, day in and day out, would certainly be a different kind of stress on the engine).
It would also NOT look good if that particular engine blew up during the testing. Ford is certainly very brave to state their objectives beforehand, as opposed to quietly doing the testing and talking about it afterwards. I sincerely want it to succeed and will be rooting for it.
Yea, the are picking an engine off the production line, running it for 150,000 miles and then putting it in a truck for the race. That is seriously ballsy.
Mind posting where you heard/read this? I assume this means they are going to put one in a raptor? for the race at least?
Sir I would say if you go to the ford web site and look under future trucks all the info is right there or going to be. They are going to use the same engine that is tested to hell and back then use it for a series of test the baja 1000 is just one of those events. Ford is going to then tear down the engine to show the wear that happened. VERY big Claims being made on 1 engine!
The 150,000 mile equivelent test was pretty wicked. There's a video on the Ford website. They ran the turbo full throttle for a long time and got it red hot. Then they dropped the temperature to below freezing and back and forth. They are also going to do some timber hauling, run 24 hours of Nascar along with the Baja before tearing the engine down.
The eco-boost looks pretty imporessive so far IMO. I thought I wanted a 6.2 but since it's not available in an xlt, I might just be lovin' me some eco-boost.
