I just bought a 99 F250 with the V10. Loving it so far even though I had to ring its neck to get over a couple mountain passes towing my jeep from Denver to Moab. Anyway, I was playing around and my headlight switch when on, pulls out and clicks as if the truck has fog lights. However, it doesn't have any. Dunno if the previous owner removed them or what. I was looking and feeling around in the stock location to see if there were any brackets or wiring and I didn't find anything. But noticed when I looked up underneath one of the horizontal bars in the grill it looked as if there had been some sort of brackets intalled at some point. Aftermarket fogs I would assume. So my question is, my truck wouldn't have the fog light switch if it didn't come from the factory with fogs would it? This weekend when I have some time, I will pull the grill (installing a billet one anyway) and look to see if I can find the factory wiring for them. But in the meantime if someone could answer my question that would be great!! Thanks!
If the icon isn't there, your truck didn't come with them. It is very possible Ford used the same switch whether the vehicle had fog lights or not, or it could have been replaced by the previous owner. It is also very possible that your truck's wiring harness is equipped for factory fog lights. They would have just capped and hid the connections and not installed the relay.
Another example is trucks that did not come with towing packages are still wired for trailer connections. You just have to find the plugs and install the relays.
Anyway, since the switch is there, you could probably figure out how to make aftermarket fog lights work off this switch.
Ok thanks. Looks like I'll be doing some digging this weekend to see if the leads are indeed capped off somwhere in the harness up front. If not oh well, I'll still use the factory switch to wire up whichever fogs I decide to use. One last question, my guess is my fuse/relay box has the spot for a fog relay, and like you said it just isn't in there. Do you know which spot that is on a 99?? I would like to make use of it if it exists. Thanks again!!
Well, after searching a little more around here, I found the answer to my question. The switch pulls out as if for fogs, but there is no circuitry inside it to even tap into to make it functional. Apparently in 99 fogs were not even an option. So that being said, even if I have an empty space where a fog relay would go, chances are, there would be no factory wiring behind the socket to support it. No biggie, I'll just start from scratch.
My 2000 is the same way. Ford is effen idiots i suppose. I took my switch apart and its a dummy feature. I metered it and everything and out of all the wires coming out NONE of them get power when you pull it out. It does nothing.
Enjoy your "F"abricated "O"n "R"etarted "D"ecisions.
Let's see, here are the steps to use two separate switches, you decide which one is retarded.
#1
put the same switch in all trucks
#2
Spec out second switch
quote second switch
order 2nd switch
create build sheet for 2nd switch
create wiring diagram for 2nd switch part number
receive 2nd switch
stock 2nd switch separately
distribute 2nd switch to specific truck
track inventory on 2nd switch
repeat ordering and receiving as needed
distributors stock 2 switches
dealers stock 2 switches
I found the wiring harness for the cab marker lights above my headliner. I don't have cab marker lights.
Do you think Ford used that same harness in all trucks, and just didn't put the funtional pieces such as the cab lights on depending on the model? I wouldn't mind adding the marker lights if the harness was already at the roof. Guess I'll have to do some major digging and see if I can find all these capped and unused ends for things such as fogs and cab marker lights. Ugh, so much time and work ahead haha!!!
those are the various options for Super Dutys. My XL came with a no fog/no Auto switch. It now has a fog/no auto switch. I'm sure you could get an XLT with auto lamps, but no fog lights...maybe still.
The clearance/ID light harness should not be present without the lights. There is a connector on the drivers side (passenger side for pre 2008) for the harness to plug into. This same connector goes to the Satellite radio antenna. There are harnesses available for each different combination of that... (lights/sat, no lights/sat, lights/no sat) when ordering a harness for clearance/ID lights you have to specify if you have Sat radio or not.
