2010 vs 2011?
As for parts in the future Navistar is still producing the 6.4.
I have to agree - I know I posted the question but I have a 2008 6.4 and it's about to hit 50,000 miles. Only problem I've had (watch me jinx myself
) is one radiator replaced on warranty. I wouldn't call that troubled either...

I spent a lot of time working with 6.0 troubles...
And at the end of the day, I conclude that most of them are in fact, mis-diagnosis, bad mods, self inflicted (tuners) etc.
The 6.0 was sold as a road engine right to 2010 model year.
6.4 had a run from 2008 to 2010 as a high volume engine --- even then, its volume was a lot lower than the 6.0 as high priced diesel pickups sales stalled.
6.4 never made it in the E series --- so that was not volume.
At the end of the day, there are probably over 1 million units of the 6.0 made, and the 6.4 is maybe 200,000?
Navistar --- please come in and confirm these numbers...
As for the 6.4 being still in production... yes... but the volume is gone.
The sheer volume of 6.0s out there make for a large aftermarket, which is a function of the size of the installed base.
Sure, parts will be legally available for at least 7 years from the time it is sold.
But what then?
What about availability?
What about tech support?
What about upgrades --- especially the all important software updates?
With the volume gone --- there is not the mass to justify development money.
6.7 in this case is the way to go --- why in the world would anyone risk the 6.4 when money is no object?
For me money would be an issue though, and for $20K less I'd get the 2010.
