I have a 2000 ford f350 v10 srw. i have a chance to pick up a used hypertech programmer 3 for 125 bucks. Is it a decent tuner or should i look for something else. thanks in advance
If you can I would recommend getting a SCT tunner with a custom tune from mike at five stars. The hypertech is OK but has a default tune. I did not like it when I had it on my 5.3 Chevy.
I have to agree with Donovan. With the SCT X3 you get datalogging to a laptop, you can scan other OBD-II compliant Fords for codes, and one last thing:
Mike at 5-star has spent loads of time developing tunes for the V10. He knows what's gotta be done, and you will love the difference, especially in the shifting.
My 2001 V10 2-valve, with ebay headers, ebay y-pipe, and Volant CAI ALREADY INSTALLED went from a 10 second 0-60 to 9.02-9.04 second 0-60.
That's a 10% improvement through a combination of engine performance and shifting improvements. The 93 octane performance tune, I get 18% better mileage stop-and-go which is mostly what I do, and 93 octane is only 10% more at the pump, so that's a win-win for me. (NOT HIGHWAY - I haven't checked highway mileage).
