Anyone have an idea as to why I have one headlight gone dim, highbeam will not work. This just happened about a week ago and I changed the bulb and it's still the same.
You may have a corrosion problem with one of the electrical connectors in the plug or in the wiring harness going to the lamp. I'd suggest removing the head lamp assembly and checking out the condition of the plug, as a starting point. If the plug is the problem, most parts stores offer plug/pigtail replacements that can be wired in. If you have to wire in a new pigtail, make sure your electrical connections (solder joints would be best) are weather tight.
Thanks for the tip, I traced the wire back inside the truck and found the short. Forgot to mention I have a plow so the short was in the toggle switch that is wired for the plow lights also. Everything else was ok. Thanks again
I know this was a few years ago for you, but I recently found the same problem with my truck. Passenger light dimmer than driver's side. My dealer also says it may be a grounding issue. My questions is how did you trace the wire back inside the cab? Is it a few wires by themselves that you traced back? Or are they grouped together in the main harness (lots of wires bunched together?)
I just looked at mine. The connection seems ok and I noticed all the wires were wrapped in electric tape. Did you remove all the electric tape from the bundle and trace?
Been there done that! Found out there is a fuse in the main panel for each individual Headlamp. In my case, one fuse was missing completely! Hint for this issue: the high beam indicator on the dash board was not working either. Replaced the missing fuse and all are working just fine now. Used the owners manual to identify the correct fuse.
I suspect the previous owner needed a fuse for one of the other systems and borrowed the Headlamp Fuse, then didn't notice the dim headlight and figured, hey, if it's not broke, don't fix it! I drove it this way for a couple of years...even with only one light at full power and the other maybe at 25% it lights up the road just fine. And nobody mentioned I had a headlight out because it appears to be working. And at night, looks like two working headlights from a distance with one maybe out of alignment or something. Funny but true.
