A couple weeks ago i connected the wires and now have the "high idle mode". Its not really terribly important to me except its just another cool mod to have. It will be great for charging batteries or giving someone a jump,, (but try not to do that much). My question is,, on a cold morning and it sounds like you left a pipe wrench in the motor when it starts,, is it ok to flip the switch and bump the rpms up. I know thats what its for, but some mornings it has sounded pretty pitiful. Just seems mean to ask it to do more. Just didnt want to stress the motor when i shouldnt,, is it any times when you shouldnt use it?? thanks.

I'm not sure if you would cause damage but do you use 5w-40 synthetic oil? If not give it a try, it may clean up the rough starts.
I just did this last Saturday and wondered the same thing. Mine doesn't sound like there's a pipe wrench in it when it starts, but I had the same question.
I just here lately became my own oil change person,, and i got it from a dealership, so to be honest i'm not sure what oil is in it at this time. I will probably make that change before cold weather get here. You know,, it doesnt sound that bad when its freezin but it is a diesel, and my father in law always says a diesel sounds like you left the mechanic in the motor..ha ha.. I have plugged it in,, but now i here it will get addicted to the heat,, i was just wondering when it was ok to flip the switch when its 10 degrees outside.
If its plugged in youll be 80deg in the block even at 10below. I dunno what the oil would be. I flip high idel on about 30 45 seconds after it starts. Your not putting a load on it so I wouldnt think it would hurt it. Im sure if Im mistaken Ill get corrected. lol
great, thanks.. I was remembering when i hooked it up, in the cold mornings the rpms were up and soon as the brake was touched it went off. These computers are quite smart.
yes they are!! They know too much sometimes. My 6.0 has remote start so on the cold mornings it fires up and after 30 seconds it starts to tach up on its own so then no mod needed! Good luck buddy!!!
Yes make sure you go to that second page because after finding the first wire behind the OBD connector in about 30 seconds I searched for hours and hours to find the other wire. Gave up and looked the next day for another hour or so. Had everything unwrapped and finally decided to go look again at the directions and some posts on the subject for the third time as I must have a wrong year of something. Found the second page and another 30 seconds and connected them and 10 minutes later done. I am an idiot. No switch though as the e brake works great. I have so many wires under there as my alarm stuff and stereo and amp wires as well as all 4 upfitter switches full.
right tollie, but the stock high idle isnt at 1250 which is what this mod does...
I need to do my friends 2005.....can someone refresh my memory on the color of the wires and location please.
Thanks
oh yea I forgot! haha Well I will put it this way...if the truck is cold it will let you know by idling itself up til its warm. Not as high as the mod but it will do it until its warm then power down.
I like this mod. You control when you want it to tach up!
Just to clariy and make sure i'm understanding how to do this..........If you were to take the blue wire with yellow stripe from under the hood and touch it to the battery the truck would go into high idle? The only reason for using the blue/white wire under the dash is that it is hooked into the fuse panel, is that correct?
