Seat swap help

Hi everybody! Great forum you have here. I hate to ask a newb question on my first post but I've been working on this problem for weeks and not getting anywhere. So, I've got a 2006 E-150 Econoline van that has some pretty deteriorated bucket seats. I've priced out a new cushion and a used E-150-specific seat and the cost is just way too much. From what I understand, the pedestals are unique to the E-series and are not cross-platform swappable but I can't figure out if just the seats/rails are. I'm basically interested in pulling the seats out of a more common ford and bolting them to the pedestals but I have no idea which vehicle, if any, would fit. If I absolutely have to drill the pedestals I will but I'd obviously rather the simple swap. Any insight at all would be incredibly helpful.

Where have you been looking for used seats? Last I looked my local salvage yard had perfectly good E-series seats for around $50.

I've checked every salvage yard within 60 miles and the ones that do have E-series vans have already sold the seats. It's maddening!

Right side seats are far more commonly available than the left side.

You can use the foam which can be readily swapped.

The covering, well.... it can be done... but the controls etc will be in wrong place.

What about an auto upholstrey shop to redo your stockers?

There was a change in the mounting for '92 and up, so the pedestals have to come from another similar model or be adapted.

I haven't checked out an upholstery shop but I assumed that it would be quite a bit more than a seat from a junkyard. Do you happen to know if the bolt-pattern for the seat pan is unique to the E-series or could another sea pan bolt to the rails I have?

I had some pedestals from my '85. A fellow came to look at them with the later model van. The holes didn't line up, and iirc, the entire base was wider.

I eventually sold them to another fellow with a later van. I send him a PM and see how his adaptation went, maybe he can suggest or advise on adapting older versions.

...and thanks for the seats ED. They fit nicely. Had to weld some bed frame angle-iron at the rear of the mounting plate cuz the floor of the van wasn't flat and the mounting holes didn't match up anyway. It also tilted the seats slightly forward which helped cuz the pedestal/rotating seats were taller than the stock ford seats and actually lowered the front of the seats. I think they were GM seats cuz they looked just like the seats in my previous '85 GM van. They have a longer travel than the Ford and rotate...but I had to take the arm rests off.

I also moved the front seats behind for passenger seats and I made it so the passenger area was very generous so they could fully recline with plenty of leg room.

So, I think what I'll do is just find a seat that is similar but more common and modify the pedestal to accept it. At least that way, if they wear out again, I can just replace them with the same seats. I don't think it will be a problem as long as I find something with rails that are the same width.
