You gotta open up the intake and exhaust, especially the exhaust. These turbos don't make all the compressor noise that powerstrokes do, but when you open up the exhaust the turbine sure does sing!
Yep. Open the exhaust and you'll get a good rush. Not the high-pitch whine of the more modern engines... its more like the sound of a wicked wind storm, or a jet engine at low throttle. A little more "airy".
Got that sound when my exhaust fell off on a rough trail this winter. Unfortunately, with no muffler these trucks really roar at higher RPMs. Then I went Banks turbo and now I have that high-pitch whine. Wish I had it screaming like our scooptrams at work do, they have Detroit diesels and the turbo is almost all you can hear.
i have a 4in coming out the motor to a 5in it turns into a 6in backpressure can and runs 5 in all the way back out
Do you still have the stock downpipe?
Also, the more pipe you add, the less turbo sound you will hear.
I have the ATS upgrade kit (3" elbow and downpipe), at the end of the downpipe I have about 2 feet of 4" pipe, a Walker 21172 muffler, and a 4" bend serving as a turnout. It sounds great and is not as loud as you'd think, in fact it's not even bad on the highway with the windows closed.
here is what im doin riggin a 6637 to mine and guys after searchin it will be getting more air with that than it is now and in reality the engine bay will still not be very hot air maybe in the summer but not bad then and that extra air = lower egts
man im srry seen the cowl and the 6637 is gunna out do it im sure of it im gunna put it where the air coming in through the grill is hitting it also this will give even more flow haha it still aint done no shops can bend my pipe its getin annoying
