A cowl induction allows cooler air to enter the engine instead of sucking hot air from the engine bay. Although, I thought these trucks had a tube device that served the same purpose. Some will say that a cowl induction will have a "ram air" effect causing the turbo to get more air and make more power. While this may be true, the effect would likely be less than 1 horsepower and only at speeds greater than 55mph. Keep in mind that these trucks are an aerodynamic disaster really and there is a large area of low pressure the develops over the hood due to the movement of the air around the front of the truck in the grill area. You stick your hand out the window and you can feel a lot of air pressure, but it's much MUCH less at the center of the hood. I can't see a cowl induction being useful for anything more than looks. I think it would serve nearly the same purpose as the stock airbox. If your goal is to get more sound out of the turbo, I am sure this would accomplish that. But to cut a hole in your hood and install the cowl correctly (not half assed) is going to be expensive and I bet you wouldn't see even a fraction of 1hp improvement. On the other hand, if you did the 6637 filter thing, a cowl might serve a useful enough purpose to keep most of the hot air off the filter... since you completely remove the stock airbox and there's no way to keep the hot radiator air off it. You might have a small net gain in power and decreased turbo lag, but I bet you'd see an increase in EGTs especially if you didn't have an intercooler. That could have adverse effects on long term reliability and longevity.

10 degrees? Try 50-60 degrees hotter. I would be interested in seeing the data.
