roentgeep-what i remember was a post about a pickup tube crack and about 2-3 pages in they got into cutting the crossmember, I think you may have input in it, it was about year ago.
If you try removing the pan with the motor in the truck and it dont work, what have you lost, but if it works just think of the time you saved. some of the work you will be doing to just raise the motor in place is work you would be doing anyway to remove the engine.

i just was thinking since i am pulling the pan might as well go with a bigger one. i would like to start doing some work to my truck and i might as well do the best pan i can.
These oilpans are difficult to seal correctly. My pan leaked after I removed it, and I was very careful ( obviously not careful enough) . Getting all the surfaces clean, especially at the corners of rear main is key.
