Oil pan leak

Can the gasket go bad between the oil pan and the motor or is pan bad I seem to have found my leak any suggestions? How hard is it to drop the pan?

Are you sure it is the lower oil pan and not the bed plate?

We're is the bed plate? When I look at it I see what looks like oil right on the side if the pan. If it is the plate how hard is that to replace?

The black metal oil pan bolts to the bed plate. The bed plate bolts to the bottom of the engine block.

Does it require the engine to be removed? And is that more likely than the oil pan

Yes, a bed plate repair requires engine removal.

Have you cleaned everything up and de-greased it yet?

That would be your first step. You need to be sure of where the oil leak is coming from before going any further. Check for oil in the valley, crank/cam sensors and from the front and rear covers.

Drain the oil and put back in 13 quarts. See if it dries up. It's easy to overfill the engine, the book says 15 quarts for an oil change but in reality 12.5-13.5 register "full" on the stick without going over.

Here is some of the fun involved in a bed plate reseal job.

Just watch the rest of his 6.0 videos on the full job.
Like you have already been told do the simple things first.
If that stops the leak then you are saved. 1 Qt lower on the
oil fill can also stop the drip and won't hurt anything.

Fyi, it's, lower oil Pan, upper oil pan, bed plate then engine block, when you remove the bed plate its best to have the engine up side down, the crank might fall out other wise! Yes you are that far into the engine!

That with the bed plate removed, Fyi.

Well 2 reasons that you have to pull the engine to do a
reseal on the bed plate. Parts like bearings sometimes stick
and then fall into the dirt pile on the floor. (don't know how they find it but they do)
2nd reason you have to pull the engine rear cover and when you
reinstall it you also have to put a new main seal in. That is less of
a pain in the *** if the engine is out or you have to pull the trans.

Not a job for the faint of heart that is for sure.
