Oil pan replacement

so today while looking under my truck i found a nice patch on the oil pan. i guess the oil pan rotted out and the last guy just rigged it up to sell it. whats my best bet for an oil pan? any one that hold more oil?

From all that I've heard you have to pull the motor to replace the pan. I'd clean it off and seal it up. Start looking for a pan. I can always find stuff cheap when I don't need it and for a lot of $ when I do need it.

you might beable to just lift the motor to change it but i'm not sure if that will give the room you need to get it out

I had a 91 f350 cc with a 460 auto. it needed an oil pump and everybody told me i would have to pull the motor. I jacked up the truck and supported it at the frame to allow the front axle to sag as far as possible. then i jacked the motor up as far as possible and the oil pan came off. dont know if this can be done on the 7.3 but i would sure give it a try before i pulled the motor.
i agree with Brain's 97 Diesel, clean it, patch it, and start looking for a replacement pan.

I'll pull a motor before I cut out & reweld a crossmember, and I have the tools & ability to weld.

I read someone on here did this not too long ago, don't remember who though, so yeah, it can be done with the 7.3

Cuda Jim had a nice write up on it ...

The reason the engine has to come out , is the sump is bolted to the front cover .

ford had a Jig made up from what i was told so they didnt have to pull the motor, it can be done but its a PITA! the reason you should pull it is because if you dont silicone right and it leaks, it will leak like a pig. just loosen the motor and other mounts and jack the motor up high as possible, it should squeak by but its not going to be fun.
