Merc Fuel Pump

Hi:

I am looking for a fuel pump diaphragm for my 63 M500 truck. Any pointers as to who might have these? The truck is a 6 cyl (probably 300 cid) electric wipers 4 speed. Fuel pump has canister and filter attached.

Thanks

I may be off base on this, but I don't think trucks ever had the 200 CID in them. I would bet on a 223, or more likely because it is a 500 that it would have a 262 in it.

Hi Broomfieldbum:

Sorry for the typo in my original post. You are correct about not being a 200 but I do believe it is a large 6 cyl like a 300 cid. Anyone have a break down on the vin plate to id motor size?

Thanks for the correction

The easiest way to tell a 223/262 from a 240/300 is the 223/262 has the manifolds on the drivers side, and the 240/300 has it on the passenger side.

Hi Broomfieldbum:

Ok, 223/262 it is since the manifolds are on the drivers side.

Thanks for the tip. Now for a fuel pump diaphragm.

No 240/300 engines were available until 1965.

1961/64: There were two different fuel pumps because the were two different I-6 engines...the parts do not interchange.

Is it a 223 I-6 or a 262 I-6? Both look identical.

If a 223, I found 30 fuel pump repair kits. If a 262, the parts catalog doesn't list any.

Hi NumberDummy:

For the pumps parts you found can you tell me the difference. My search on the net shows two fuel pumps, one for vacuum wipers and one for electric wiper. My truck has electric wipers if that helps.

Also the pump on this truck is a Carburetor M01463 or M01468 pump. Any way to x ref that to your parts list? Does your parts list show a diaphragm?

Thanks for your input.

There were no vacuum wipers available for these trucks. Single Speed electric wipers were standard, two speeds were optional.

There are two different pumps, because the one for the 223 is different than for a 262.

But neither of the Carter numbers you posted are listed in the parts catalog.

The diaphram was only available with the fuel pump or fuel pump repair kit.

C3TZ9350K (replaced C3TZ9350H, C3TZ9350E, C2TZ9350A, C1TE9350C, C1TE9350A) .. 262 Fuel Pump / Obsolete / 1961/63 F500/600.

Since the 262 fuel pump had sooo many part number replacements, I was able to find part numbers for the repair kit. The problem is, no Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.

C3TZ9349B (replaced C1TZ9349B) .. 262 Fuel Pump Repair Kit / Obsolete
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
C3TZ9350C .. 223 Fuel Pump / Obsolete / 1957/64 F100/600 / Obsolete

C3UZ9349A .. 223 Fuel Pump Repair Kit / Obsolete

GREEN SALES CO. in Cincinnati OH has 30 = 800-543-4959 / 513-731-3304 (greensalescompany.com).

The only thing I can suggest is, contact Green Sales. They may be able to decode the engine code listed on your trucks Warranty Plate.

I cannot do this for any Canadian truck except 1965's.

Hi:

Thanks for looking up the part numbers. You are correct when you say "neither of the Carter numbers you posted are listed in the parts catalog" and that would be because they are "carburetor" numbers. I did not know carburetor made pumps but that is what is listed on the pump.

From my reading online it seems that the difference in the pumps is, in large part, to do with the pump arm (angle, length, and direction), positon of fuel connectors, and filter integrated or not. The information I would really like to know is if the diaphragm is the same or not. All I really need is the diaphragm and gaskets.

I have found an old ebay listing for C4TZ-9349-A fuel pump repair kit. Is there any way to match that number to any of the parts you found?

Thanks
PaMnd

Regardless of what is marked, the fuel pumps are Carters, because that's all Ford used on these trucks, and there is no such company as "carburetor."

C4TZ9349A is the fuel pump repair kit for C4TZ9350B = 1964 262 fuel pump. The pump and kit are not the same as 1961/63.

I suggested you contact Green Sales as they may be able to decode your Canadian VIN, then let you know what size engine you have.

I can only do this for 1965, and 1966 and later is the same VIN sequence as US trucks.
