Hey. I am wanting to turn the center console in my truck into a sub box. I was thinking about gutting it and fiberglassing the inside of the shell and have the sub coming out the back. iv never worked with fiberglass before so i was wondering if anyone could give me some tips. would i start by doing the inside of the box first and then the bottom and back? My console is the same as the one in this link Ford F250 with custom center console i was planing on removing the rear plastic peice and making my own out of fiberglass with a ring to mount the sub in. any tips or advise would be great. Thanks
Fiberglass can be a SOB to work with having to wait for it to cure and get the recipe just right. Your best bet would to make your own custom center piece and fire the sub backwards. I did this in my old truck and it worked pretty good and clean i carpeted the box to match the carpet inside the truck so it looked fairly clean and hit pretty good with a single ten.
thanks for the advise. another option would be making a box to fit under the rear seat with the sub firing down. that way i wont be loosing any storage space. would this sound better or worse? i havnt really looked under there but i assume i could fit a box witha large enough volume.
I just put a 12 in a down firing box between the console & rear seat in my F250 crew cab. Its hitting real hard for just one sub. I don't know why but I get good bass from down firing boxes in a truck. Rear firing works good too. Both seem to work better for me than front firing boxes.
+1 on down firing. I built a basic box for a 10" in my old pickup and experimented with firing different ways. Down worked the best with just a few inches below it. I did make certain to run a lot of power to it. Good luck, Mike.
