89 to 96?

Hey guys i've been thinking *which is dangerous* i have a 89 F-350 Single cab long bed. i was thinking of putting a 95-96 nose on it and maybe dropping a 7.3 in it .. i know it seems like alot of work but its sad to say i cant part with this old truck.
so guys my question how hard would the nose and engine swap be and what would i need to change around with the motor swap.. and quick info its got a C6 and low gears anything about 45 is motor is gettin up there in RPM.. thanks guys for the help

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...p-started.html Have a read here if you are thinking of swapping in a Power Stroke.
Swapping in an IDI diesel (pre 941/2) would be a lot easier but either way you would need a transmission for the diesel.
Plenty of info on this site about diesel swaps and front clip swaps.

front clip swaps should be pretty much bolt on... the 96ish years need to have a few spot welds drilled out... Just replace those with sheet metal screws if you don't have a mig welder. You would definatly have to swap your radiator support also... what you are looking for is the complete "dog house" or "front clip". I don't have all the details but there are plenty of other threads on here about swapping the clip... Sometimes it's easier to find info from here by a search on google... just put in the fte website and front clip swap or something similar into google and it will find what you need easier.

what motor do you have now?

Ok first... I think we are going to flip your "M" upside down to a "W." If you are talking about the 1989 they had 351windsors V8's not 351modifieds. Also you might want to take a look at the 7.3L diesel numbers compaired to the 351w numbers. Honestly a pair of headers and a cam would put you at about the same hp and torque ratings. The 351w is a great truck motor... You can get some great HP and Torque out of that 351w... It's just being held back by the SD motor. You can swap to MAF and put a more agressive cam in it though... Just a thought to save you the time and work. Check the numbers below.

88-91 EFI 5.8L 210 hp 315 lb·ft torque
87-91 IDI Diesel 180 hp 345 lb·ft torque

We are here to help so just let us know what you need to know and i am sure someone will know the answers on here!

A 351w will never compare to a 7.3 powerstroke! If you can build a 351w to have 500hp to 700hp and get 20 miles to the gallon let me know!

No offense, but if you can build a 7.3 to get 500 to 700 horse and 20 mpg, please let the rest of us know.

That being said, a powerstroke swap is doable and there are folks that have done it, but its also not for the faint of heart either, and if you are going to the trouble of swapping from gas to diesel you might as well go with a power stroke. As for the front end swap, its easy enough to do, just make sure you get the 92 up cowl panel, as the 89 wont match the 92 up hood, and you will need to make some brackets to mount the 92 up bumper. Also, you will need a different core support and radiator for the diesel.

That guys is an ***. There is noway you will run 500hp and get 20mpg at the same time. Yes you can get 500hp and yes the truck is still capable of getting 20mpg but not at the same time, you need to turn it down to an ecomomy setting(aka 2-300hp)

Sorry, I'm not going to pay $99.95 for access to something, as for the free side of things, all it seems to be is a bunch of youtube videos, may be some good info there, but once again I stick with my original comment. 700hp and 20mpg? You are dreaming. It takes fuel to make power, and to take a 7.3 up to 700hp takes more than just fuel, it takes alot of hi performance, hi dollar parts, and at that point you are consuming so much fuel to make that hp, mpg is a complete second thought. Not to mention a 7.3 built in that range is running on the razors edge of everything. Diesels are not built to do that kind of hp, diesel fuel by its very nature is not conducive to making that kind of hp. My 14.7L (897cid) Cummins N14 is rated at 525hp, and to take it to 700hp requires a complete reprogam of the ecu, different turbo and some other goodies. I know several old mechanical Big Cam Cummins that are pushing 1000hp and I also know the gentleman who built them, and those motors are anything BUT stock. Ported and polished heads, coated pistons, cams, custom built pumps and oversize injectors just to name a few.

My point exactly Brad. Not trying to rip on the PSD's at all. (I'm actually looking for a PSD Excursion 4x4 right now) They are great motors and can't complain a bit about em. My brothers 99PSD F350 is still going strong at over 250k, and the 6.0 in a buddys F350 dump truck impressed me plenty enough when we had my F250 on the back on a home made trailer (probably 20-22k gross) and it accelerated going uphill when we turned the chip up to level 5. I also know that when we left the chip at 5 in Nates truck, the mpg was a joke. My 460 got better mpg than it did.
