I just got home from the Hershey RV show. A gentleman that was there displaying a 2011 F-450 6.7 with the hitch prep and the new hitch from from Ford that doesn't have rails told me if I get the 5th wheel hitch prep done by Ford than I have to use only the new hitch that Ford is selling for $1500 and I cannot use my Reese hitch with the rails. Does anyone know if this is true? I already ordered my new truck with the hitch prep package but did not want the new hitch for $1500. I wanted to reinstall my old 5th wheel 16k Reese hitch with the rails. My order is in for about a week and I don't know if I can delete this option in time. My dealer is closed on Sundays. I would have hoped the salesman would have known if this is true about this option. Thanks for any feedback.
I just looked at my hitch. It is a Reese 16K Kwik Slide hitch. Don't know if it a signature series because I got it 6 years ago. Can I get an adapter kit to make it work with the 2011 Ford 5th wheel hitch prep?
I tried to send a reply but my pc froze and I don't know if it went through or not, so I'll try again. I do not believe the 16k will adapt in any way to the new Ford fifth wheel prep pkg. It is designed for the Signature series/ aka Elite series hitches. Which you can buy from Ford at a higher price than online pricing. If you were to find a Signature series hitch you would need to buy an adapter kit that raises the hitch up off the bed as the legs on that model hitch are shorter. In a nutshell that is the only difference between the Signature and Elite series hitches, except for about 300 or more dollars. It is a very nice clean looking setup as you saw at the show in Hershey. I too was admiring that F-450 it was quite a truck and for just a measly $65,000.
If I cancel my order with Ford can I have my 16K Reese Slider Hitch installed the regular way from an outside installer or with this truck I cannot use my hitch at all?
I do not know about the Reese undercarriage but the B&W base for 2011 is different than 2010 and earlier trucks. If Reese is different, you will need a 2011 base but your hitch should mount to the new base.
I was able to cancel the 5th wheel hitch prep from for before the truck was invoiced and stickered. Spoke to Reese and they said I can mount the 5th wheel hitch the same way I have it in my 2005 F-350. Just need to order new bolt package. Thank you everyone for the information. I still can't wait to get a vin# so I can track my build and delivery date.
