Does anyone here know where the front tranny pump is located? And do u guys think its an easy fix??? Is this also a dealer part only?
Looking to pick up an 05 F250 6.0 diesel 4X4 lariat edition
Before I buy it in the afternoon tomorrow this is the only known problem for the truck
Thanks
Tony
The transmission pump is inside the transmission. Remove the trans from the truck, remove the torque converter, and there it is. It takes a puller to get it out of the case.
Any transmission supply house will have a pump.
It is very rare for a pump to fail without a lot of other problems inside the trans. If the pump needs replacing most likely the whole trans needs a rebuild.
I wonder why he thinks the pump is bad. Usually when someone calls it a front transmission pump they have no idea what goes on inside a transmission. There is only one pump, why call it a front pump?
I suspect he has no idea what's up with the truck. There may or may not be serious problems with it. If it really needs a pump it probably is not drivable.
In the older transmissions there was both a front pump and a rear pump. Once the designs changed, a lot of people continue to use the phrase "front pump" because it is still in the physical position of the old designed front pump.
A rebuilt 5R110W will cost you $1500-$2000. If you are a decent mechanic you can install it yourself fairly easily, but there still remains the question why the seller thinks he has a bad front pump.
Given that lack of information and the asking price, I would look elsewhere.
I would offer no more than a reasonable amount, minus the cost of a full tranny rebuild with installation at a reputable shop, plus some extra for your troubles.
